The historic Orchestra of the State Theatre of Braunschweig will play a "best of" programme picked out from performances over the last decade

Thousands of visitors expected from throughout the region

Braunschweig, 25 April 2019. The open-air "Classics in the Park" event, which is sponsored by Volkswagen Financial Services, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. First staged in 2010 in front of about 5,000 spectators picnicking around the Portikusteich lake in the city's Bürgerpark, this green concert hall experience has since become an essential fixture in the regional calendar enjoyed by a steadily growing number of visitors. For the ninth annual concert in 2018 more than 20,000 people flocked to the site, which has since moved to the area of the park just south of the Volkswagen Hall.

In its anniversary year 2019, those attending this family-friendly event – which remains free of charge thanks to the financial support of Volkswagen Financial Services – can look forward to a varied and entertaining "best-of" programme of classical music from the Braunschweig State Theatre, once again this year under the musical direction of Martin Weller and under the baton of principal conductor Srba Dinić. As in previous years, blankets, chairs and tables may be brought to the site along with anything necessary to cater for one's own culinary needs. Food and drinks will also be on sale on the premises as well. Grills, barbecues or open fires are not permitted, however.

In the interest of everyone's security, bags and rucksacks brought into the area will be subject to random spot checks.

The organisers ask visitors to travel by public transport or by bicycle wherever possible. A limited number of parking spaces are available on the "Harz und Heide" grounds.
