Volkswagen and Volkswagen Financial Services are warning of a fraud scheme in the used car trade. In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, used Volkswagen models are currently being offered at particularly attractive prices via fake websites or by email using counterfeit offer catalogs. The aim is to lure potential customers and prompt them to make down payments or full payments for Volkswagen used vehicles that do not exist.
On deceptively authentic-looking websites or through seemingly reputable emails, the impression is created that the used car offers are genuine sales channels, offer catalogs, or sales materials from Volkswagen or Volkswagen Financial Services. In reality, neither the alleged sales instruments nor the vehicles offered actually exist. The perpetrators use forged email addresses, telephone numbers, and bank details.
Affected customers should contact the police immediately.
